Which Way Can Help You Welcome the Lord’s Appearance, Beholding Signs and Wonders or Listening to God’s Voice?
With regard to welcoming the Lord’s return, many people only focus on seeing signs and wonders and waiting for the Lord to come on a cloud with great glory. But can we really witness the Lord’s appearance in this way? Back then, the Lord Jesus showed many great signs and wonders, such as feeding five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish and raising the dead. His work shook the foundations of Judaism and shocked the Jewish state. But few people could recognize that He is Christ, the appearance of God. Many people saw that the Lord Jesus could show signs and wonders, but they thought that He was only a prophet. So they left the Lord after enjoying His grace. The Samaritan woman, Nathanael, Peter and others were able to recognize the Lord Jesus as the coming Messiah and follow Him not because they saw the signs and wonders performed by the Lord Jesus, but because they actually listened to His sermons, heard His voice, and recognized His identity from His words. Therefore, only by paying attention to hearing the voice of God can we see God’s appearance and welcome the Lord. In welcoming the Lord, if we merely focus on beholding signs and wonders and watching earth-shaking scenes, but do not take heed to listen to God’s voice, we will miss the opportunity to meet the Lord.
Just as God says, “[S]ince we are searching for the footprints of God, it behooves us to search for God’s will, for the words of God, for His utterances — because wherever there are new words spoken by God, the voice of God is there, and wherever there are the footsteps of God, God’s deeds are there. Wherever there is the expression of God, there God appears, and wherever God appears, there the truth, the way, and the life exist. In seeking God’s footprints, you have ignored the words ‘God is the truth, the way, and the life.’ And so, many people, even when they receive the truth, do not believe that they have found God’s footprints, and still less do they acknowledge the appearance of God. What a grave mistake!”
God’s words state very clearly that seeking God’s appearance requires us to take heed to listen to His voice. Therefore, when we hear someone testify that the Lord has returned, we should humbly seek and study the words of the returned Lord, and accept and follow Him once we confirm that they are God’s voice.
