Review of The Moment of Change — I Have Finally Found the Way to Break Free From Sins and Enter the Heavenly Kingdom
To be honest, the most painful thing for me during my years of believing in the Lord is that I have never been able to break free from the bondage of sins. Sins like arrogance, self-righteousness, craftiness and greed all bind me like shackles, and I’m unable to extricate myself from them. It’s an unspeakable suffering! Several days ago, I talked with a brother on Facebook about my situation, and he sent me a movie — The Moment of Change. I was attracted upon seeing the title of the movie, for I really hoped that I could have my sinful nature changed in an instant.
The plot is quite simple: A group of Christians are debating about whether the saying that “The Lord will change men’s images in an instant upon His return,” is in line with the Lord’s intention. The protagonist Su Mingyue holds the viewpoint that as long as she keeps working and preaching for the Lord, serves the Lord piously, and bears burdens toward the church’s work, she will be approved by the Lord and be taken into the kingdom of heaven when the Lord returns. However, when she sees that the church becomes increasingly desolate, that many co-workers and brothers and sisters are pessimistic and weak, and that their faith and love grow cold, she falls into confusion and pain. This debate causes her to doubt the verses which she has been holding on to: “We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:51–52). She used to teach the brothers and sisters, “Because of our faith in the Lord, we are called righteous by faith, and we have received salvation by grace. Although we still often commit sins, we will be transformed instantly and raptured into the kingdom of heaven when the Lord arrives.” Now she comes to realize that this point of view is actually wrong. When many brothers and sisters hold such a view, they don’t pay attention to practicing the Lord’s words and abiding by the Lord’s commandments, but instead become increasingly debauched and distant from the Lord, leading a life of sin under the excuse of grace. For a moment, Su Mingyue and her co-workers all fall into perplexity…. Fortunately, through seeking, investigating, and fellowshiping, they finally find the way to cast away the sinful nature, attain holiness, and be raised into the heavenly kingdom.
As a matter of fact, the question that puzzles them is just the one that I have been perplexed about for a long time. I like this movie not because of there are popular actors — actually the actors are all ordinary Christians, nor because of their superb acting. I like it because it is beneficial to my life. It clearly and explicitly shows me the way to solve the problem that puzzles me and makes me most frustrated, resolving my practical difficulties. I really benefit from it a lot. If you have a similar problem, then you can’t miss this movie. If there are more movies like this, we’ll obtain more things that are beneficial to our lives. In this way, we’ll truly have hope to be saved and enter into the kingdom of heaven.
The conversation between Su Mingyue and her son is a highlight of the film. Zheng Hao is a Christian, yet is still addicted to the mundane world, wines, dines, and frolics with the unbelievers, and pursues the fleshly enjoyment, without the slightest likeness of a Christian. Thinking that the Lord is about to return at any time but her beloved son is so depraved, Su Mingyue really worries that her son cannot be raptured into the kingdom of heaven. Thereby, when she sees her son come back from drinking late at night, she rebukes him and asks him to confess and repent before the Lord. Her son’s words, however, make her speechless: “Mom, don’t you often say that as long as we recognize the Lord’s name, believe that the Lord is our Savior, then we will definitely be saved? Although we still sin often like the unbelievers, the Lord will not abandon us. When He returns, He will instantly change our images, make us holy, and bring us into the kingdom of heaven. Mom, you still worry that we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven?” Su Mingyue holds the viewpoint that the Lord will change our forms instantly and bring us into the kingdom of heaven when He arrives. However, while seeing that her son can’t live out the likeness of a Christian at all, she worries whether he is able to be taken into the heavenly kingdom. She might actually not be sure whether she herself can be instantly transformed when the Lord arrives.
I say no more from here, or I’ll take away all the excitement and suspense. As for how to get rid of the sinful nature so as to attain holiness and be raised into the kingdom of heaven, it is fellowshiped clearly in this film. If you’re struggling hard and painfully in sins, feeling powerless to extricate yourself from them, if you also want to break free from the shackles of sin, if you desire to cast away your sinful nature and achieve holiness, then The Moment of Change will point out the way for you.
